Kootenay #9 Workshop

Our 16th Annual 2017 Fiddle Workshop will be held this summer from July 10th to 14th at Selkirk College in Castlegar BC.  Registration is handled through Selkirk College.  Thanks to community sponsors and many hard-working volunteers, the Workshop has been growing each year–last year we had 85 people attending!

Players of all skill levels are welcome, from those who have never held a fiddle before to advanced players with many years of experience.  We have a wide range of age groups, and usually keep age groups and skill levels together.

There are classes for fiddle, guitar and piano, plus a variety of workshops on related topics such as stepdancing, harmony, vocals, and What To Play When You Don’t Know The Tune.  In the evenings there will be events such as a family-friendly Old Time Dance, jam sessions, a students concert and an instructors concert.

The music is based upon East Coast Old Time Fiddling.  Our primary instructor, Gordon Stobbe, is a Master Fiddler who hails from the East Coast and instructs at workshops around the country.  Several other first-rate instructors are joining Gord for the our 2017 Fiddle Workshop.

For lodging there are dorm rooms available through the college, several local camp grounds and many hotels. Selkirk College provides cafeteria services, and it’s an easy five-minute drive to restaurants in downtown Castlegar.

Classes are designed for learning and fun. Bring your recording device to keep track of all the tunes you will hear.

Don’t delay! Register today!
